Zone Mag - 5th Collective Book Open Call

Once again, we open the door. ZONE’s fifth collective book is now accepting submissions. For many of you, this process will feel familiar—but for those encountering it for the first time, here is where we begin.

We are interested in what happens when images meet. When photographs from different places, practices, and intentions are brought together, they start to behave like parts of a single organism—responding to one another, revealing tensions, harmonies, and unexpected connections. By listening closely to these visual conversations, we move from an open field of images toward a shared, emergent meaning. This is why we choose not to define a theme in advance.

Each collective book we produce operates as an artist book rather than a conventional magazine. Every edition develops its own identity through changes in size, materials, structure, and conceptual approach. Despite these differences, invisible lines run through them all. So far, our first four books have included the work of 498 artists from across the globe.

Our selection process is intentionally simple and uncompromising: we look only at the images. We set aside background, recognition, and professional status in favor of how the work resonates within the evolving sequence of the book. Although we care deeply about amplifying underrepresented voices, inclusion is always determined by the images themselves.

We often find ourselves drawn to artists who operate beyond the comfort of their established practice—those driven by curiosity, experimentation, and a desire to challenge how they see and make work.
