WORLD WATER DAY


World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water-related issues, be inspired to tell others, and take action to make a difference. World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development where an international observance for water was recommended. The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day. It has been held annually since then and each year an engagement campaign is coordinated by one or several of the UN-Water Members with a related mandate. A wide range of institutions, individuals, and organizations use World Water Day to raise public attention to issues surrounding water, a precious resource that was recognized in 2010 as being a “universal and fundamental human right“.


01 THE COMPETITION The Lions Club of Seregno AID Ets based in Seregno (MB) in collaboration with UN-Water (Coordinating the UN’s work on water and sanitation), together with Lions Acqua per la vita MD108, the patronage of the European Community, the Province of Monza Brianza, the Municipalities of Seregno, Monza, Melegnano and Gruppo Solidarietà Africa, in the occasion of the 2022 World Water Day is organizing the sixth edition of the “World Water Day Photo Contest#WWDPHC to draw public attention to the critical issue of water in our times, with special focus on access to good water. The proceeds of the competition will be devolved for co-financing international aid projects in favor of communities in need of “Water for Life“.

02 THEME The competition is open to all lovers of photography and to all supporters of environmental issues and is based on the theme “WATER: MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE” Entrants may present all photos connected to the theme of the contest and taken with any type of photographic device, camera, smartphone, tablet, drone. action cam etc. For all sections, entries must not have won an award in any other photographic competition on the pain of being disqualified. Both color and black and white photos are permitted. Software corrections and post-production are allowed, photo editing and photo manipulation are not accepted. Photos with signatures, watermarks, or visible marks on the image are not allowed. The jury and the organizers will, at their discretion, disqualify those photos or images deemed offensive. There are two sections : THEMED PHOTOS Section for single-themed photos. The theme is “WATER: MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE” open to all. Also, participate in this section: Young photographers aged 21 years old (The age reached in completed years of age at 22/03/2022) and primary and secondary schools, high schools, and college. (YOUNG CATEGORY). This category will be awarded a special prize. Members of any Lions Club or Leo Club all over the world (LIONS CATEGORY) This category will be awarded a special prize STORYTELLING A themed section “WATER: MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE” in which you can propose a set of photos, portfolios, photojournalism and storyboards, sequences of images that share a story related to water. Along with the photos, will have to write a brief description, better in English of its project Portfolios must be made a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 photos. (12 photos only for Early bird)

03 REGISTRATION The website www.worldwaterday.it will supply all information relevant to the registration and participation, the enrolment fee, and the dissemination of the competition. For the section “Themed Photos” a fixed fee of € 10.00 (ten Euro) is to be paid with the submission of the first photo and € 5,00 (five Euro) for each subsequent photo. The registrations completed within 01/01/2022 will benefit from a special fee (Early-bird): the fixed fee of € 10.00 (ten Euro) allows to upload of two single photos instead of only one. For the section “Storytelling” a fixed fee of € 30.00 (thirty Euro) is to be paid regardless of the number of photos making up the portfolio (minimum of 5, maximum of 10 photographs). The registrations completed within 01/01/2022 will benefit from a special fee (Early-bird) the fixed fee of € 30.00 (thirty Euro) allows to upload of a maximum of 10 photos instead of 8.
