Vital Impacts exists to serve those who see the world through the lens of possibility and care—visual artists and photographers who document the natural world not only to bear witness, but to advocate for change. We are especially dedicated to uplifting those who are focused on telling solutions-based environmental stories rooted in local communities and ecosystems. These stories have the power to connect us all and illuminate paths forward.

This year, we are honored to provide a total of $50,000 in grant funding to help support the creation of such work. Specifically, we will award one (1) primary grant of $20,000, as well as six (6) additional grants of $5,000 each. These grants are meant to give artists the freedom and means to go deeper—to uncover environmental narratives that are often overlooked, yet deeply essential.

Each recipient will be given a full year to develop and complete their project. Throughout that time, Vital Impacts will offer support not only in the form of funding, but also in helping to publish, promote, and share their finished work. Our aim is to elevate these voices and ensure they resonate far beyond their local roots.

To further invest in the future of environmental storytelling, we are also selecting ten (10) emerging photographers for an immersive mentorship program. This initiative is built around artistic and professional development, with close guidance from industry experts and past Vital Impacts contributors. It is an opportunity to grow in craft, confidence, and community.

We believe that everyone who cares deeply about the environment deserves to be part of this conversation. That’s why our online mentorship series is open to all applicants—a space where creatives from around the world can connect, learn, and be inspired.
