UNESCO - Onewater Photostory Contest

Welcome to the WALK OF WATER: WATER TOWERS Photo Story Contest!

Every year, UN-Water establishes a theme for World Water Day. In 2025, the spotlight will be on glaciers, aligning with the International Year of Glacier Preservation.

To mark this occasion, Onewater, the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme, and partners are proud to host the next WALK OF WATER international photo story contest.

This competition invites photographers to highlight the urgent issue of vanishing glaciers, celebrate the many forms of water storage, and reimagine what ‘water towers’ mean in today’s world.

Your photostories should explore one of the following themes:

  1. The effects of climate change: Document how glacial retreat impacts ecosystems and communities from source to sea.

  2. Water storage across landscapes: Capture the interplay between natural and human-made water storage systems and their evolving environments.

  3. Innovative water solutions: Envision new interpretations of 'water towers,' such as sustainable water management, alternative freshwater sources, or artistic perspectives.

We’re looking for compelling photo stories that illuminate critical water conservation challenges and inspire action. Show us your creativity and contribute to raising awareness about this vital topic.

Join us in reimagining the concept of ‘water towers’ and capturing their dynamic transformations. We can’t wait to see your powerful stories!

This year’s contest is supported by MPB, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the City of Burghausen. Submissions will be managed through our partner platform, Picter.
