TSD - Grant for Photographers 2025

The “Dresden Grant in Photography” is an annual residency award established by the Dresdner Stiftung Kunst & Kultur der Ostsächsischen Sparkasse Dresden in cooperation with the Technische Sammlungen Dresden. It is aimed at professional and emerging photographers who are committed to advancing their practice and sharing their work with wider audiences. Applicants are expected to be working either independently or full-time in the field, or to hold an academic degree in photography or the arts. In addition, candidates should already have achieved public recognition through at least one solo exhibition or publication. To ensure fresh perspectives, the grant is open exclusively to photographers who do not live permanently in Dresden.

The residency is designed to give photographers the rare opportunity to concentrate fully on their own artistic ideas, free from external pressures, while encouraging an active engagement with the cultural and social fabric of Dresden. The intention is not only to foster new photographic projects but also to facilitate dialogue between the artist, the city, and its residents.

Projects supported by the grant may take many forms—ranging from documentary investigations to experimental and conceptual practices—as long as they emphasize photography as their central medium. A key expectation is that the city of Dresden will play a significant role in the work, whether through direct urban imagery, more abstract interpretations, or explorations of the city’s identity, history, and everyday life. Recipients are expected to be physically present in Dresden during the residency period in order to fully immerse themselves in the local context and contribute to its artistic and cultural discourse.
