TLOUPAS PATH – Photography Award of Thessaly's Heritage is an international photography competition and festival based in Larissa, Greece, established in honour of the photographic legacy of Takis Tloupas, one of Greece's celebrated photographers. The project is grounded in an exploration of the relationship between people and their surroundings, using photography as a means of observing and interpreting the landscapes, communities, cultural practices and everyday experiences that define a sense of place.
For this edition, the guiding theme is “Renaissance.” The concept invites photographers to consider renewal not simply as a return to what existed before, but as the emergence of something new from a period of uncertainty or crisis. Against a contemporary backdrop of social, environmental and cultural challenges, the competition seeks images that communicate transition, resilience and hope. Photographers are invited to identify and document moments of transformation: places undergoing recovery, traditions being revitalised, communities adapting to change, and ordinary forms of life quietly re-emerging. Drawing upon Tloupas's humanist photographic perspective, the competition encourages an attentive and compassionate approach to the world and to the people who inhabit it.
The award is open internationally to both professional and amateur photographers aged 18 and above. Each entrant may submit a photographic series consisting of between three and five images. All works must be original photographs created by the participant and submitted in JPEG or JPG format. The organisers recommend the sRGB colour profile, while each image must have a minimum long-side dimension of 1920 pixels and may not exceed 5 MB in file size.
The competition allows basic photographic adjustments, including changes to brightness and contrast as well as cropping. These adjustments are intended to allow photographers to present their work effectively while maintaining the integrity of the original photograph. The addition or removal of elements is prohibited, as are photographs generated through Artificial Intelligence tools. In order to maintain an impartial and anonymous selection process, submitted images must also be free from watermarks, signatures and logos.
Organised under the auspices of the Region of Thessaly and co-financed by the European Union, TLOUPAS PATH is conceived as more than an annual photographic award. Its broader ambition is to establish a lasting international platform connecting contemporary photography with cultural heritage. By creating a meeting point between photographers, communities, landscapes and histories, the initiative seeks to encourage a continuing visual conversation about identity, transformation and the enduring relationship between people and the places they call home.
