The Muhammad Ali Center, located in Louisville, Kentucky, is proud to announce the launch of its eleventh annual “Shining a Light” International Photography Contest and Exhibition. This highly anticipated event continues the Center’s ongoing commitment to promoting social justice, equality, and cultural awareness through the lens of photography. The theme of this year's contest is inspired by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on Goal #5: Gender Equality, and Goal #10: Reduced Inequalities. These global objectives emphasize the need for equal opportunities and rights for all, regardless of gender or background, making them a fitting foundation for the contest and exhibition.
In keeping with these vital themes, this year's contest invites photographers from around the world to submit their most compelling images that capture the many ways in which women serve as catalysts for change. The Ali Center is asking participants to highlight the strength, resilience, and leadership of women who inspire others, uplift their communities, and contribute to creating a more equitable world. Through these visual stories, the Center hopes to shed light on the often-overlooked contributions of women and to celebrate their pivotal role in fostering positive change across various spheres of life.
After the contest submission period closes, the Muhammad Ali Center will carefully curate a selection of approximately 30 photographs, which will be featured in a special documentary-style exhibition. This powerful showcase is scheduled to debut on International Women’s Day, Saturday, March 8, 2025. The exhibition will offer a visual journey through the lives of remarkable women, presenting their stories in a way that both educates and inspires audiences. The Ali Center looks forward to using this platform to amplify the voices of women from diverse backgrounds, while also encouraging conversations about gender equality and social justice on a global scale.
The "Shining a Light" exhibition has become an integral part of the Muhammad Ali Center’s efforts to foster awareness and promote meaningful dialogue, and this year’s event promises to continue that legacy with a powerful and timely theme.
