The Homiens Art Prize is an international award created to recognise artistic excellence while providing artists with opportunities for meaningful professional development. Whether an artist is at the beginning of their career and seeking a defining breakthrough or is already established and looking to expand their international presence, the prize offers a platform designed to connect artistic achievement with wider industry recognition.
A defining characteristic of the Homiens Art Prize is its openness to artistic diversity. The competition accepts artworks across all mediums and forms, including painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, printmaking, installation and audiovisual practices. Artists may submit works produced in any year, and there are no restrictions relating to theme, subject matter or artwork dimensions. This open framework allows participants to present work on its own artistic terms rather than adapting their practice to a predetermined brief.
Each competition round recognises 10 winners as well as up to 200 highly commended artists. Winning artists are featured in the quarterly Homiens exhibitions, creating an opportunity for their work to be presented within an international context and introduced to audiences beyond their immediate artistic communities.
Financial support is another important component of the prize. Homiens awards more than $12,000 USD annually, reflecting its wider commitment to supporting artists and accelerating professional development. The prize is conceived not only as a moment of recognition but as part of a broader ecosystem intended to help artists develop sustainable connections within the contemporary art world.
This ecosystem brings artists closer to a range of professional stakeholders, including public institutions, curators and private buyers. By facilitating greater visibility and connections, the prize seeks to help bridge the often significant distance between the creation of artwork and engagement with the wider international art market.
The programme also offers several additional avenues for exposure. Artists may be selected for the curated Meet the Artists initiative or the Promoted Artists programme, while winning artists can optionally participate in The Art of Art: Interviews. These opportunities allow artists not only to display their work but also to communicate their ideas, practices and creative perspectives directly to a broader audience.
In this way, the Homiens Art Prize combines artistic recognition with exhibition opportunities, financial support, professional networking and international promotion, creating a platform intended to contribute to the long-term development of participating artists' careers.
