The Homiens Art Prize welcomes artists from every stage of their creative journey. For emerging artists, it can provide an important opportunity to gain visibility and establish a presence within the international art scene. For established professionals, it offers another platform through which to present their work, reach new audiences and develop further professional recognition. The prize is designed around artistic merit and aims to create meaningful opportunities for artists whose work demonstrates originality and creative strength.
There are virtually no limitations on what artists can submit. The competition is open to all forms of artistic practice and accepts painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, printmaking, installation, audiovisual work and many other mediums. Works created in any year are eligible, and artists do not have to respond to a specific theme. There are also no restrictions on the physical size of the submitted artworks, giving participants considerable freedom in choosing which works to present.
For every round of the competition, the Homiens Art Prize announces 10 winners and up to 200 highly commended artists. The winning artists are featured in quarterly exhibitions, giving them the opportunity to have their work presented as part of an international programme and to reach audiences outside their existing networks.
The financial aspect of the prize is also significant, with more than $12,000 USD distributed annually. However, the programme's objectives extend beyond financial awards. Homiens positions the prize as a career-acceleration initiative, designed to help artists gain exposure, build professional connections and create opportunities that may contribute to longer-term career development.
One of the key benefits of participating is access to a wider network within the global art ecosystem. Through the prize, artists can potentially connect with or gain visibility among public institutions, curators and private buyers. This creates a bridge between an artist's studio practice and the broader professional structures that shape the contemporary art market.
Additional promotional opportunities further extend the reach of selected artists. Homiens' Meet the Artists initiative offers curated features that introduce artists and their practices to a wider audience, while the Promoted Artists programme provides another avenue for international exposure. Winning artists may also choose to participate in The Art of Art: Interviews, an interview series focused on their work and artistic perspectives.
Taken together, these opportunities make the Homiens Art Prize a platform that combines competition, exhibition, financial support, professional visibility and artistic promotion, with the broader goal of helping artists develop their careers on an international level.
