The HCB International Photo Award

Founded with a deep commitment to the legacy of two iconic figures in photography, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson operates as a state-approved non-profit institution devoted to preserving and sharing the photographic contributions of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Martine Franck. However, the Fondation’s mission extends beyond conservation; it also serves as a dynamic space for artistic discovery. Staying true to the intentions of its founders, the Fondation regularly opens its doors to other photographers, providing them with a platform to present innovative and thought-provoking work. Over the past twenty years, it has built a rich and varied exhibition program, showcasing some of the most compelling photography from around the world.

As part of its ongoing support for the photographic arts, the Fondation awards the Henri Cartier-Bresson Creation Award every two years. Targeted toward seasoned photographers with a strong documentary practice, the award is designed to enable the pursuit or completion of a major project. With a generous prize of 35,000 euros, the award facilitates not only the realization of a bold creative vision but also ensures public engagement through an exhibition at the Fondation and the publication of the resulting work.
