The Chateau Gallery - Call For Entry: The Art of Abandonment

The Art of Abandonment is a photographic exploration of what is left behind—of forgotten spaces, discarded objects, and the ghostly remains of once-vibrant lives. In these silent remnants of the past, we find echoes of ourselves. Through the lens, photographers are able to capture and preserve these fading elements before they disappear forever, swallowed by time and reclaimed by nature or neglect.

What do these crumbling structures, rusted tools, weathered belongings, and fading facades say about our collective history? What do they reveal about human nature, progress, neglect, or impermanence? In these images, we are invited to consider more than just the visual decay—we’re asked to reflect on who we are abandoning and what we leave behind. These spaces, though forgotten, still speak.

The Art of Abandonment is now accepting submissions for an international open call. Photographers aged 18 and older are encouraged to submit work that fits this evocative theme. We welcome a wide range of photographic styles and media—traditional or experimental, analog or digital, conventional techniques or alternative processes. Whether your approach is documentary, abstract, conceptual, or narrative, we’re looking for work that uses the photographic image as a foundation for interpreting and memorializing the transient nature of place and time.

If your work speaks to memory, disintegration, or rediscovery, we want to see how you visualize abandonment—and what beauty or truth might still be found in what has been left behind.
