Pharmacopeia: noun. What emotions or images does this word stir within you? Does it conjure an internal catalog—an archive of experiences with substances both healing and harmful? Perhaps it triggers a flood of memories tied to addiction, sobriety, relapse, or the liminal spaces in between. Does your mind become a surveillance chamber of unrest, a disorienting arena of obsession, fear, and altered perception? Do you reflect on times when your creative process was deeply intertwined with intoxication—whether substances were a tool, a crutch, or a coincidental backdrop? Was your art shaped by chemical influence, or were you merely creating from within the haze?

Pharmacopoeia is an international open call for photographers aged 18 and over. We invite you to engage with this complex theme and share work that navigates the boundaries between consciousness, substance, and image-making. All forms of two-dimensional photographic imagery are eligible—from traditional prints and analog darkroom processes to experimental, mixed-media interpretations. Whether your work is rooted in documentary, abstraction, or conceptual exploration, we welcome submissions that stem from a photographic base and challenge the norms of representation, perception, and control.
