In today’s rapidly shifting cultural landscape, we are witnessing a profound redefinition of artistic creation. Advances in artificial intelligence and generative technologies have made it possible to produce highly sophisticated visual outputs at extraordinary speed—raising critical questions about authorship, originality, and the role of human intervention in the creative process.
Simultaneously, there is a resurgence of interest in traditional practices—analog photography, oil painting, printmaking, hand-drawn illustration—as artists reassert the significance of the tactile, the time-consuming, and the deeply personal. These developments are not isolated—they are happening in tandem, sometimes in harmony, often in tension. As these modes of making converge and diverge, we must ask: what is being gained, and what is at risk?
This edition of VOGUED situates itself within this discursive space. We invite artists to consider how their own practices engage with, critique, or transcend these competing forces. What happens to meaning, narrative, and emotion when machines take on the role of maker? What new responsibilities or freedoms arise for human creators? And how might these technological and traditional methods influence one another in the years to come?
To mark this moment, we are privileged to host Mr. Tabish Khan as Guest of Honour. An influential art critic known for both his public engagement and critical integrity, Mr. Khan will inaugurate the exhibition on August 8th with an opening talk that frames the curatorial theme and situates it within broader trends in art and society.
Tabish Khan is widely recognized as one of the most accessible and respected voices in the UK art scene. As visual arts editor for Londonist, a regular contributor to Culture Whisper, and columnist for FAD—through his weekly piece “What’s Wrong with Art?”—he has demystified contemporary art for a wide audience. His institutional roles as trustee for ArtCan, City & Guilds London Art School, and Discerning Eye further reflect his commitment to nurturing artistic talent and fostering inclusive platforms for dialogue.
This exhibition is not only a showcase—it is an invitation to pause, to question, and to contribute to an ongoing conversation about the nature and future of art itself.
