Where is contemporary art heading? Is the term “contemporary” still relevant, or are we entering a new epoch in artistic practice?
The art world is undergoing a shift. After decades of market dominance by institutions and galleries, power is tilting back towards artists themselves. Through the proliferation of digital platforms and social media, new voices are emerging with unprecedented visibility and reach.
How the established and the experimental will converge remains an open question. What will endure, and what will fade? Such questions rarely yield definitive answers. Yet few are better placed to offer insight than Dr Jean Wainwright, whose long career as a historian, curator, and Warhol specialist is defined by thousands of artist interviews and decades of research.
Dr Wainwright will open our exhibition with a keynote talk on 10 October, drawing on her deep expertise and distinctive perspective.
An internationally recognised figure, Wainwright is celebrated for her scholarship on Andy Warhol, her role as a critic and broadcaster, and her extensive oral history archive, much of which is housed at Tate. As Professor Emerita at the University for the Creative Arts, she has curated landmark exhibitions, consulted for the BBC, and published widely on both established and emerging practices. Her projects often navigate political, social, and cultural intersections, while consistently championing new generations of artists.
New Voices reflects this spirit—bringing together artists across disciplines and generations in a space where tradition meets experimentation. Here, the urgency and innovation of art today become a catalyst for redefining the very notion of “contemporary.”
Our gallery, located in the vibrant Tower Bridge district of London, offers an iconic backdrop for this dialogue. Positioned on Tooley Street, within minutes of the city’s most renowned landmarks, the gallery attracts over 5 million visitors monthly, cementing its reputation as a hub for art and ideas.
