The Bob and Diane Fund was established in 2016 with the mission of supporting visual storytelling projects that focus on documenting the impact of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. This important annual grant is designed to help photographers complete, publish, exhibit, and/or screen their work, offering a financial award of $5,000 USD to aid in the realization of these projects. By providing funding, the Bob and Diane Fund seeks to amplify the voices of storytellers who are shedding light on the complexities of Alzheimer’s and dementia, bringing greater awareness to these conditions through compelling imagery.
Each year, the grantee is announced in mid-November, coinciding with National Caregiver’s Month, which highlights the dedication and sacrifices made by caregivers for their loved ones. The timing of the announcement underscores the Fund's commitment to honoring the stories of those affected by Alzheimer's, both patients and the caregivers who support them.
The fund was created by Gina Martin, who founded the nonprofit in memory of her parents, Bob and Diane Martin. Bob and Diane were high school sweethearts who shared 49 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and devotion to one another. Diane passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2011, after a prolonged battle with the disease. In the months leading up to her death, Bob acted as her steadfast caregiver, providing unwavering support until her final days. Tragically, just three months after Diane’s passing, Bob died as well, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment that deeply inspired their daughter, Gina.
Moved by her parents' story, Gina Martin founded the Bob and Diane Fund to ensure that the experiences of others facing Alzheimer’s and dementia are captured, shared, and remembered. Through this grant, the Fund not only honors her parents but also contributes to a broader understanding of the emotional and physical toll of these devastating diseases.
