Held twice annually, the AS International Film Photography Awards is an international competition dedicated to celebrating the artistry, innovation, and enduring appeal of analog photography. The competition welcomes entries from professional photographers, amateur enthusiasts, and photography students across the globe, offering a platform to showcase exceptional work created through traditional photographic methods.
The awards recognize images produced using a broad spectrum of analog processes, highlighting both classic and experimental approaches to film photography. Eligible submissions include photographs captured on color film, black-and-white film, instant film, wet plate collodion, and numerous other historic and alternative photographic techniques. By embracing such a diverse range of processes, the competition celebrates the remarkable versatility and creative possibilities of analog image making.
In addition to traditional film photography, the awards acknowledge the evolving relationship between analog and digital technologies. Photographers are invited to submit hybrid works in which film-based images have been enhanced, refined, or creatively transformed using digital post-production, provided that the original image was created through an analog photographic process. This reflects the increasingly dynamic ways contemporary artists combine traditional craftsmanship with modern creative tools.
The competition remains firmly committed to preserving the spirit of analog photography. For this reason, photographs created entirely with digital cameras or produced solely through digital techniques are not accepted. Every eligible submission must have its origin in an authentic analog photographic process, ensuring that the awards continue to honor the unique qualities and heritage of film photography.
