Photography competitions are a unique meeting point of craftsmanship and chance. On one hand, you cannot hope to succeed without skill—the ability to compose a powerful image, master exposure, and harness light in a way that elevates the ordinary to the extraordinary. On the other, the final outcome often depends on a variable you cannot fully control: the individual tastes of the judging panel. Selecting the single “best” image from thousands of worthy entries inevitably involves personal preference. We believe there is nothing wrong with that; in fact, it’s part of what makes photography so exciting. But it is also the reason we go beyond the traditional podium places. Instead of recognizing only the top three, we proudly honor the Top 101 landscape photographs each year.

Within this diverse collection, the judges have the freedom to award excellence across a broad creative spectrum. Single, perfectly timed shots sit alongside inventive composite works that push the boundaries of landscape imagery. We place no artificial limits on how you may choose to express your vision, provided that the final piece is, at its core, photographic in nature. Your task is simply to send us your very best work; our task is to decide if it earns its place among the 101 most compelling landscapes of the year.

This year marks the twelfth edition of the International Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards. The primary goal of our award is not only to identify a single overall winner, but to give many photographers the opportunity to have their artistry published in our annual collection. Those who secure a place in the Top 101 will be featured in a beautifully designed book—both in a free online edition and as a premium hardcover volume available for purchase.
