The Smithsonian magazine 23rd Annual Photo Contest will accept entries beginning on September 15, 2025. The competition will officially close on December 1, 2025, at exactly 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Submitting a photo serves as confirmation that the contestant has reviewed the contest rules, accepts them in full, and is at least 18 years of age.
Eligibility requirements:The contest is open to photographers aged 18 and older, who may enter in the following categories:

Wildlife
Travel
People
The American Experience at 250
Artistic Images
Drone/Aerial
It is important to note that individuals affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution are not eligible for prizes. This includes current employees, emeriti, Regents, trustees, fellows, research associates, interns, and volunteers, along with members of their immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings, children) and others living in their household. The Smithsonian reserves the exclusive right to make eligibility determinations for any contestant.
