Seeing Happy - "Toronto Through our Eyes" Photography Contest

In 2025, Toronto will become the canvas for a citywide celebration of joy, resilience, and belonging through Toronto Through Our Eyes, a photography contest designed to reflect the city’s unique spirit. Hosted by SeeingHappy—a nonprofit that has already collected over 10,000 photographs of happiness from across the globe—and supported by the Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA), this initiative demonstrates the power of images to create unity and inspire hope.

Open to anyone who has experienced Toronto, whether resident, traveler, or visitor, the contest calls for photographs that capture everyday acts of kindness, artistic expressions of creativity, or cultural gatherings that showcase the city’s diversity. Each entry will contribute to a living archive that documents Toronto not only as a place but as a community where beauty and compassion thrive.

The selected works will be recognized with prizes and displayed at a Community Exhibition in collaboration with The Bentway on November 18, 2025. There are also plans for a series of pop-up exhibitions throughout the city, extending the reach of the project into neighborhoods and communities, where images can spark dialogue, reflection, and pride.

This initiative resonates with SeeingHappy’s global vision—to use photography as a medium for promoting mindfulness, human connection, and positivity. By ensuring that photographers keep full rights to their submissions, the project reinforces its commitment to ethical, community-driven creativity. For Toronto, one of the world’s most diverse cities, Toronto Through Our Eyes is both a celebration and a reminder: flourishing begins with seeing and valuing the beauty already present in our daily lives.
