Toronto Through Our Eyes is more than just a photography contest—it is a citywide celebration of belonging, beauty, hope, and unity that aims to capture the spirit of Toronto through the lenses of its people. Organized by SeeingHappy, a global nonprofit dedicated to using photography to inspire joy and reflection, in collaboration with the Canadian Positive Psychology Association (CPPA), the country’s leading organization advancing the science and practice of positive psychology, this initiative invites all who have lived in, visited, or simply experienced the city to share their unique perspective.
The contest encourages participants to highlight Toronto’s many faces of positivity—whether through the vivid colors of a mural, a quiet act of compassion between neighbors, or the energy of a vibrant cultural celebration. Together, these images will form a growing visual archive that reflects the resilience, diversity, and connectedness of Toronto, while offering viewers an opportunity to pause and see the city through a lens of gratitude and optimism.
Selected photographs will not only receive recognition and prizes but will also be showcased at a Community Exhibition in partnership with The Bentway on November 18, 2025. Additional pop-up exhibitions are planned across the city, ensuring that the project reaches as many communities as possible, sparking reflection and conversation about what makes Toronto shine.
This effort is deeply tied to SeeingHappy’s global mission, which has already gathered more than 10,000 photographs and personal reflections of happiness from around the world. By giving people a platform to notice beauty and share hopeful stories, SeeingHappy promotes mindfulness, well-being, and collective human connection. Importantly, contributors retain all rights to their work, ensuring that submissions are only used to further the organization’s charitable mission. With Toronto Through Our Eyes, SeeingHappy and CPPA bring this vision to life in one of the world’s most diverse cities, reminding us all that flourishing begins when we learn to notice and celebrate the good around us.
