SEEEU - Open Call for Contemporary Photography Festival

Reframing Realities delves into the evolving perspectives that continue to shape, distort, and redefine the cultural and political landscape of contemporary Europe. This theme invites a critical look at how realities—whether factual or constructed, personal or collective, ecological or visual—are in constant flux. Through the lens of photography, we explore how these layers of experience intersect and inform one another.

As the continent grapples with the aftershocks of geopolitical conflict, the complexities of migration, and the mounting existential threats of the climate crisis, artists respond by creating images that refuse to sit neatly within traditional categories of reportage or fiction. These works challenge the viewer to consider the unstable nature of truth and perception in the digital era—where identities are fluid, self-image is algorithmically curated, and the line between authenticity and artifice becomes increasingly blurred.

In a world saturated with synthetic visuals, disappearing species, and reconfigured histories, Reframing Realities asks a vital question: Who gets to define the boundaries of our shared reality—and who is left outside the frame? The theme calls on photographers to confront and question the forces that construct our understanding of place, belonging, and beauty in today’s Europe.
