The Sarajevo Photography Festival (SPF) is a dynamic annual event that transforms Sarajevo into a global hub for photography each year. Spanning an entire month, the festival celebrates the power of visual storytelling while bringing together photographers from around the world—ranging from emerging talents to internationally recognized professionals.
The 2026 edition will open with a week-long series of events from June 1 to June 7. During this time, visitors can experience a rich and varied program that includes curated exhibitions, hands-on workshops, artist talks, panel discussions, portfolio review sessions, and numerous opportunities for networking and collaboration. Although the opening week is the most intensive period, exhibitions will continue to be accessible throughout the entire month of June.
SPF is known for its strong emphasis on socially relevant themes, providing a platform for voices that explore issues such as human rights, identity, memory, and cultural heritage. Since its launch in 2022, the festival has received submissions from more than 60 countries and has quickly become one of the most significant networking events for photographers in Southeast Europe.
Each year, the festival honors exceptional work by awarding the top three artists in each of eight competition categories. The jury may also recognize notable entries with honorable mentions. The Grand Prix winner receives a cash award of 2,000 EUR, while all first-place category winners are presented with prizes sponsored by Canon, along with a distinctive festival trophy. Altogether, the total value of prizes awarded reaches approximately 7,000 EUR.
