Rotterdam Photo 2026 presents Echoes of Silence, an exhibition that explores how war shapes artistic identity when the artist is not a witness but an inheritor of its emotional aftermath.

In a world oversaturated with images of violence, this edition invites a more personal and psychological lens. Instead of documenting events, participating photographers use their work to process, translate, and symbolize conflict’s internal echoes—through abstraction, metaphor, and emotion.

War, in this context, becomes a state of being rather than a spectacle. The focus shifts from visible destruction to invisible reverberations: silence, absence, and fragmented memory.

“Echoes of Silence” highlights artists who transform trauma into visual poetry, offering perspectives that balance the dominant narratives of media spectacle with nuance, introspection, and empathy.
