In 2025, the Rotlicht Festival for Analog Photography is proud to return to the majestic halls of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna for its main exhibition. This iconic venue, rich in cultural history and architectural elegance, will host our showcase across more than 1,300 square meters. Here, we will present the 20 exceptional projects selected from our international Open Call 2025, opening the festival with a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition.

This year, the festival centers around the theme "Life After Extinction?"—a timely and urgent question that delves into the fragile future of our planet and its inhabitants. Can life persist in the aftermath of ecological collapse, war, or personal loss? Is there hope for rebirth, transformation, or reconnection after the end of the world as we know it?

Rather than focusing on catastrophic imagery or despair, we encourage submissions that explore possibilities of renewal—creative visions of how humanity might rebuild ties with itself, each other, and the greater web of life.
