The Romano Cagnoni Award, an international photojournalism prize, was born in 2019 in memory
of the late photographer Romano Cagnoni (1935-2018), one of the twentieth century’s most
internationally recognized and award-winning photojournalists.
The Award is promoted by the Fondazione Romano Cagnoni, in collaboration with Photolux -
International Festival of Photography and with the support of LensCulture.
The Romano Cagnoni Award is held every two years with the aim of supporting photographers
who investigate, with depth and participation, topics related to the human condition, social and
environmental change, humanitarian crises, and the violation of human rights in the world.
The Theme of the RCA 2022 edition is Freedom!
The selected projects will be submitted to an international jury.
The winner will receive: a prize of € 5,000, a sculpture symbol of the RCA, an exhibition produced
and shown during the Photolux Festival 2022 Edition, the publication of the work in the official
catalog of the event. In addition, a work selected among those shortlisted will be published in
Internazionale Magazine.
The winner of the RCA 2022 edition will be announced by March 2022 and will be awarded during
the Photolux Festival in Lucca, which will take place in the period 28 May – 19 June 2022.
