Raccont’Arti - Castelfiorentino Prize for the Arts: Contemporary Photography

“The Illusion of Knowledge: The Photographic Image Between Freedom and Control” serves as a critical inquiry into photography’s complex role within modern society. This year’s theme invites participants to reflect on how photographic imagery operates at the intersection of power, consent, and resistance, urging artists to consider the influence photography has in shaping public discourse, framing narratives, and challenging dominant ideologies.

This call is open to all photographers and visual artists aged 18 and above, regardless of nationality or professional background. Applicants may submit under one of two categories:

  • The Student Category, which is reserved for individuals currently enrolled in or who have graduated within the last year from a visual arts, photography, or academic program.

  • The Open Category, which is open to all other eligible participants.

Winners in each category will receive cash prizes in recognition of their work:

  • €3,000 will be awarded to the winner of the Open Category

  • €500 will go to the winner of the Student Category

In addition, a total of 10 artists (five from each category: one winner and four finalists per category) will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a group show held in the historic town of Castelfiorentino, Italy—a platform intended to give emerging and established artists visibility within a professional curatorial context.

This exhibition not only highlights the power of visual storytelling, but also positions photography as a medium through which systems of control and freedom are both challenged and revealed. We invite you to join the conversation.
