“The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible.” These powerful words by Toni Cade Bambara remind us that art is more than an aesthetic pursuit—it is a force for change, a spark for movements, and a bridge between justice and imagination. This grant is for photographers who embody that spirit, who see their lens not just as a tool of documentation but as an instrument of connection and transformation.

We are looking for visual storytellers with deep, authentic relationships to the communities they photograph—whether they are rooted in those places themselves or have developed meaningful bonds over time. We seek those who illuminate critical issues such as land and water protection, Indigenous science and ecological wisdom, climate justice, environmental regeneration, and the broader fight for human rights and Indigenous sovereignty. The intersections are endless, and we welcome work that pushes boundaries, including mixed media photography that challenges how these stories are told and understood.
