As Toni Cade Bambara once said, “The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible.” This grant is designed specifically for photographers who not only document stories but also have deep, meaningful connections with the communities they photograph. Whether they are members of these communities themselves or have built strong, trust-based relationships over time, their work should reflect an intimate understanding of the people, landscapes, and struggles they portray.
We are seeking photographers who focus on critical and urgent topics such as land and water protection, the preservation and application of Indigenous science and traditional ecological knowledge, climate change resilience, environmental regeneration, and the intersections of these issues with human rights, Indigenous sovereignty, and the land back movement. We believe that photography can be a powerful tool for advocacy and awareness, and we encourage mixed media artists to apply, bringing their unique perspectives to these pressing global conversations.
