The Pulitzer Center is currently offering a series of grants aimed at supporting journalists who wish to report on the consequences of unprecedented reductions in U.S. health aid across the Global South. These funding cuts have the potential to significantly affect health systems, medical programs, and communities that have long relied on international assistance. Through this initiative, the Center hopes to encourage in-depth reporting that documents how these changes are impacting healthcare access, public health progress, and the lives of individuals and communities.
While the program highlights this urgent issue, journalists are still encouraged to apply for funding for other health-related reporting projects as well. However, this particular opportunity places special emphasis on stories that examine the real-world effects of the withdrawal or reduction of funding from U.S. programs, including those previously supported by USAID and other sources of international aid.
The Pulitzer Center is especially interested in firsthand reporting from the field, including eyewitness accounts from journalists working in Africa and other regions of the Global South. These stories can help audiences in the United States better understand the human impact of shifting global health policies, as well as the uncertainty surrounding programs that once supported critical medical services, disease prevention efforts, and health infrastructure.
By supporting these reporting projects, the Center aims to bring greater visibility and deeper context to an issue that may have far-reaching consequences for global health progress in the years ahead.
