With the support of the ProfiFoto NEW TALENT AWARD powered by Canon, photographers can turn their “images in their heads” into reality. We are not looking for finished works on a given topic, but rather image ideas that arouse curiosity for more. All award-winning works will be published in the professional magazine ProfiFoto and can be seen in a group exhibition.

The following documents must be submitted:

  • an informal description or concept of the project (no more than 2,000 characters)

  • five to a maximum of ten photos as work samples. The award-winning photo projects must be completed within eight weeks of the jury's decision being announced. Exceptions are only possible after consultation with the organizer.

The prices

Twice a year, an expert jury selects five photo projects. In addition, the jury selects the three best works each year from a total of ten winning works in the two competition sections. They will receive cash prizes totaling 3,000 euros (1st place 1,500 euros, 2nd place 1,000 euros, 3rd place 500 euros). All award-winning works will be published in ProfiFoto and shown in group exhibitions.

Judging

The jury makes a pre-selection based on the online gallery, for which prints are requested from the participants who have been nominated to take part in the final round after the closing date.

Important:

  • The participants must be in possession of all rights to the submitted images: By registering online, the participants assure that they are the sole authors of the submitted concept, that they can freely dispose of the submitted works and the existing usage rights and that the images are free of third party rights.

  • The organizers reserve the right to reject entries that violate ethical or moral standards.

  • The submitted concepts and the resulting works may be used to present the competition and its journalistic evaluation. The organizers have the right to exhibit the projects selected by the jury for this purpose and to use them free of charge as part of journalistic reporting.

  • A complete series, consisting of original photographs, from the photo project created as part of the competition will remain with the organizer for archiving or exhibition purposes.

In addition to Canon, other cooperation partners in the competition include the renowned Laif photo agency, PHOTOPIA Hamburg and the online laboratory WhiteWall.
