Water is an essential and dynamic element that continually shapes the physical and visual world. It influences landscapes through erosion and transformation, interacts with light to create reflection and atmosphere, and conveys movement across both natural and human environments. As a subject, water also holds symbolic significance, representing change, memory, emotion, and the passage of time.
It exists in a wide spectrum of forms, including oceans, lakes, rivers, rainfall, snow, ice, mist, and vapor. It can also be experienced visually through reflections, patterns, textures, and abstract manifestations that suggest its presence without direct depiction.
This exhibition invites photographers to submit work that investigates water in its many forms, interpretations, and conceptual possibilities. Artists are encouraged to explore water as both a physical phenomenon and a metaphorical subject.
Submissions may be literal or interpretive, documentary or conceptual, representational or abstract. Works may emphasize stillness or motion, clarity or ambiguity, environmental observation or emotional resonance.
We welcome a broad range of photographic practices, including traditional landscape photography, documentary and environmental work, conceptual and fine art photography, as well as experimental techniques and mixed approaches.
We are pleased to have Lee Anne White serve as juror for Water: Element of Change. She will select up to 35 images for display in our physical gallery in Middlebury, Vermont, along with an additional 40 images to be featured in our Online Gallery.
All selected works—up to 75 images—will be reproduced in the official exhibition catalog, permanently hosted on our website, and promoted through our social media channels, including direct links to each photographer’s professional website.
