PhotoPlace Gallery - "WATER: Element of Change" Call for Entries

Water is one of the most powerful and constant forces on Earth, an element that quietly yet persistently shapes the world around us. It carves landscapes over time, smooths stone, reflects shifting light, and moves endlessly through cycles of transformation. Beyond its physical presence, water also carries deeper associations—memory, emotion, rhythm, and change. It can appear calm and contemplative, or energetic and unpredictable, embodying both stillness and motion at once.

It reveals itself in an extraordinary range of forms. We encounter it in vast oceans and winding rivers, in falling rain and drifting snow, in frozen sheets of ice and the soft obscurity of fog. It can also appear indirectly, through reflections, distortions, patterns, and abstract visual impressions that hint at its presence rather than depict it directly.

For this exhibition, we invite photographers to explore water in all its complexity and variation. We welcome work that considers water not only as a subject, but also as a symbol, a process, or a visual language.

Submissions may approach the theme literally or interpretively. They may be representational or abstract, meditative or energetic, minimal or richly detailed. We encourage artists to respond to water in ways that feel personal, experimental, or conceptually driven.

All photographic styles and approaches are encouraged, including landscape photography, documentary storytelling, conceptual explorations, and innovative experimental processes.

We are honored to present Lee Anne White as the juror for Water: Element of Change. She will carefully review submissions and select up to 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery, along with an additional 40 works to be featured in our Online Gallery.

All selected images—up to 75 in total—will be reproduced in the official exhibition catalog, permanently archived on our website, and promoted across our social media platforms, with direct links to each photographer’s website.
