Color can be quiet or loud, subtle or bold—but it always speaks. It has the ability to shift how we interpret space, influence the emotions we feel, and draw our gaze in unexpected directions. In Color + Space, we invite photographers to reflect on the profound ways color shapes our experience of place. Whether you're drawn to the natural world, architectural settings, or the language of abstraction, we want to see how color can define, challenge, or soften the concept of space in your work.
We’re interested in photographs that treat color as more than a surface treatment. Show us how it becomes integral to the composition—how it changes the depth, orientation, or meaning of a scene. From vibrant chromatic explosions to restrained monochromes, let the use of color reveal new dimensions in space. How can color be used to compress or expand a room? To flatten a landscape or push it toward infinity? To dissolve boundaries or emphasize them? These are the questions at the heart of this exhibition.
Esteemed curator Ann Jastrab will serve as juror for Color + Space, bringing her keen eye and deep understanding of photographic storytelling to the selection process. She will curate up to 35 works for exhibition in our gallery in Middlebury, Vermont, along with 40 images for our Online Gallery. All selected photographs will be featured in a beautifully designed exhibition catalog, archived on our website indefinitely, and shared widely on social media, with direct links to each artist’s website to offer ongoing exposure and engagement with our audience.
