Photographers across the globe are invited to take part in OPEN CALL: A Celebration of Contemporary Photography, an international juried exhibition presented by PhotoPlace Gallery. This special exhibition celebrates the ever-evolving language of photography and the countless ways artists use the medium to observe, question, document, and imagine the world around them.
Created in celebration of World Photography Day, the exhibition stands as one of PhotoPlace Gallery’s broadest and most accessible opportunities for photographers working in any style, genre, or process. From compelling documentary projects and intimate portraiture to abstract experimentation, conceptual storytelling, alternative processes, and contemporary visual narratives, all forms of photographic expression are welcome.
This open call is designed to reflect the richness and diversity of photography today. Artists are encouraged to submit work that represents where they are creatively right now — whether deeply personal, socially engaged, technically innovative, or visually exploratory. Both emerging and established photographers are invited to share images that push boundaries, communicate emotion, and reveal unique perspectives.
This year, PhotoPlace Gallery is pleased to announce that renowned curator Paula Tognarelli and Gallery Director Zach Hoffman will serve as jurors for the exhibition. Together, they will select up to 35 images for exhibition in the gallery’s physical space in Middlebury, Vermont, along with 40 additional works to be featured in the Online Gallery exhibition.
Every selected photograph will receive extended visibility through inclusion in the official exhibition catalog, permanent placement on the gallery website, and promotion across social media platforms, complete with links to photographers’ personal websites and portfolios. Altogether, 75 selected images will become part of this international celebration of contemporary photography.
