PhotoPlace Gallery invites photographers worldwide to submit work for OPEN CALL: A Celebration of Contemporary Photography, a juried exhibition honoring the expansive creativity and evolving visual language of photography in the contemporary moment.
Presented in recognition of World Photography Day, this exhibition offers an open platform for photographers working across all subjects, styles, and photographic methodologies. As one of the gallery’s most inclusive annual opportunities, the exhibition seeks to bring together a wide range of artistic voices and perspectives that reflect the depth and diversity of photographic practice today.
Submissions may include, but are not limited to, landscape, portraiture, documentary, street photography, conceptual work, abstraction, mixed media, experimental imagery, and alternative processes. The gallery welcomes work that is both technically refined and emotionally resonant — images that challenge conventions, capture fleeting moments, explore identity, or simply reveal the world through a distinct and compelling visual perspective.
Whether rooted in traditional photographic techniques or shaped by experimental and interdisciplinary approaches, this exhibition encourages artists to present work that speaks authentically to their current creative direction. OPEN CALL serves not only as an exhibition opportunity, but also as a broader celebration of photography’s continued transformation as an art form and cultural language.
PhotoPlace Gallery is honored to have Paula Tognarelli and Gallery Director Zach Hoffman as jurors for this year’s exhibition. Their selections will include up to 35 photographs for exhibition in the gallery space in Middlebury, Vermont, and an additional 40 photographs for inclusion in the Online Gallery exhibition.
All selected works will be reproduced in the official exhibition catalog and permanently archived on the gallery’s website. In addition, participating photographers will receive ongoing promotional visibility through the gallery’s social media platforms, including direct links to their personal websites or portfolios. A total of 75 images will ultimately form part of this curated international showcase celebrating contemporary photography today.
