With its eighteenth edition, the festival crosses a symbolic threshold, entering a stage that echoes the very theme it seeks to explore: maturity as both arrival and uncertainty. This moment becomes a mirror, reflecting the layered experience of transition. Coming of Age (18+) does not treat adulthood as a simple crossing marked by age or law, but as an intricate journey shaped by fractures, awakenings, and acts of self-assertion.

In this passage, innocence does not vanish into absence; instead, it mutates, taking on new textures and meanings. The individual begins to take shape as a conscious presence—responsible, visible, and implicated in the wider social fabric. Autonomy emerges as both a promise and a challenge: the gradual disentangling from inherited identities and the forging of a self that stands apart. The body becomes a terrain where desire, control, vulnerability, and expression collide, while identity itself remains in flux, constantly negotiated across shifting social and personal landscapes.

The experience of coming of age lingers in an in-between space, suspended between the lightness of childhood and the weight of accountability. Play does not disappear, but it becomes entangled with consequence. The lines between “permitted” and “forbidden” blur, revealing themselves as both external constraints and internal thresholds—boundaries that are crossed, resisted, or redrawn. The designation “18+” thus takes on a symbolic resonance, marking a liminal condition defined by tension: between liberation and responsibility, between selfhood and social expectation.

Within this framework, the theme traces moments of transformation—first choices that carry lasting impact, breaks from the past, gestures of independence, and instances of conformity. It also exposes the invisible architectures of expectation that define adulthood, questioning who constructs them and to what end. Coming of age, then, is not a singular event but an ongoing negotiation, a field of forces where memory, pressure, and desire intersect.

Coming of Age (18+) ultimately opens a space for reflection on the fragility and boldness that define this threshold. It invites us to consider whether adulthood is ever truly reached, or whether it remains a condition perpetually in motion, shaped by each new decision and each reimagining of the self.
