The street is a theater without script or stage direction. Every passerby, every fleeting glance, every moment of tension or tenderness plays its part in the ongoing story of humanity. Street photography is the art of bearing witness — of freezing the split second when light, movement, and emotion align.

With On the Street, we invite photographers to explore this living rhythm — to capture images that reveal the beauty, humor, and complexity of ordinary life. These could be photographs of a crowded crosswalk glowing at dusk, a street musician lost in performance, or the still intimacy between strangers waiting for a bus. Whether your work emerges from the vibrancy of a metropolis or the quiet edges of a small town, we want to see how you interpret the essence of the street.

Show us your vision of the world when it’s unaware of being watched — when authenticity, chaos, and grace coexist within the same frame.

Our juror, Elizabeth Avedon, will select up to 35 images for display in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and an additional 40 works for the Online Gallery. All 75 selected photographs will be featured in the official exhibition catalog, remain part of our permanent online archive, and be promoted through our social media channels with direct links to the photographers’ websites.

On the Street celebrates the spirit of observation — the photographer’s instinct to find meaning in the fleeting, and art in the everyday.
