OW - "Water" Photography Contest 2025

Water flows through every story we tell. It nourishes, divides, connects, and defines us. We invite photographers of all backgrounds—whether you are a professional storyteller or an emerging image-maker—to embark on a visual exploration of how water shapes the human experience. With more than €10,000 in prizes, this contest celebrates the power of photography to awaken empathy and understanding.

Water is never just water—it is a symbol, a struggle, a daily act, a dream. It is found in rituals of faith and in the quiet dignity of work; it reflects gendered realities and ecological crises, and it sustains both body and spirit. Through your photographs, we hope to see how this elemental force connects humanity, crossing borders and generations.

Inspired by the United Nations’ 2026 World Water Day theme, this contest focuses on the intimate and transformative link between water and gender. We seek stories that reveal how water shapes identities, determines opportunities, and influences equality—and how, in turn, people shape their world through their relationship with it.

Your Photostory Might:

  • Explore water and identity. Show how who we are—our gender, culture, profession, or ancestry—shapes the ways we gather, conserve, and experience water.

  • Expose challenges and inequalities. Capture the realities of those who struggle for access, the imbalance in who carries the burden, and the community efforts to find balance and justice.

  • Celebrate resilience and inclusion. Shine a light on those building change—voices that are often unseen yet vital in crafting a more sustainable and equitable future.

We invite you to be part of this global conversation in images, where every photograph contributes to a deeper understanding of how water sustains and defines humanity. Together, let’s celebrate the beauty of resilience, the strength of diversity, and the shared hope for a future where access to water is fair, inclusive, and truly universal.
