Introducing the OD Photo Prize.

We are thrilled to announce the opening of submissions for the OD Photo Prize, a prestigious competition that seeks to recognize and celebrate the outstanding work of emerging photographic artists worldwide.

Founded by Open Doors Gallery in the UK, this annual open call is specifically designed for artists in the early stages of their careers, within the first ten years of their practice. For over a decade, OD has been dedicated to discovering and showcasing artists across various genres of contemporary photography. The OD Photo Prize is an extension of this philosophy, aiming to foster long-term relationships with artists on a global scale.

This year, the Winner of the OD Photo Prize will receive an increased cash prize of £2,000 [$2,500 USD], thanks to our valued partners (see below). Additionally, all shortlisted artists will be invited to participate in a group exhibition hosted by Open Doors Gallery at the Photo Book Cafe in London. This exhibition serves as a celebration of their talent and projects. A selection of prints from the shortlisted artists will be displayed and made available for sale both online and at the exhibition. The Winner and two Runners Up will receive even more prominent display space at the exhibition, and for at least a year, they will be featured as advertised artists on the Open Doors Gallery website alongside our esteemed roster of award-winning artists.

Moreover, the selected finalists will be eligible for various prizes chosen by our panel of influential experts in the field of photography. These prizes range from being singled out as "Judge's Picks" by our panel to the Metro mentorship award, personally chosen by artist and creative director, Professor Steve MacLeod.

Building Momentum.

At OD Photo Prize, we pride ourselves on continuously monitoring the development and career progression of artists who have previously been shortlisted for the prize. We are delighted to report that this past year has been filled with remarkable achievements. Here are a few highlights:

Jono Terry, the Grand Prize Winner of 2022, recently completed shooting for his ambitious, multi-chapter, long-term project titled "They Still Owe Him a Boat" and is now preparing to publish his first book—an incredible milestone in his career. Kíra Krász, a shortlisted artist from 2021, had the privilege of exhibiting alongside OD artists at Photo London, hosted by Open Doors Gallery. Sem Langendijk, another shortlisted artist from 2022, exhibited their project "Haven" at the prestigious Dutch institution FOAM, in addition to releasing a book of the same name. Karen Navarro, a talented sculptural photographic artist and shortlisted artist from 2022, showcased her brilliant series "Constructed Self" at Mexico's Zona Maco fair.

Furthermore, we were thrilled to witness the enchanting series "Nachtluftschlösser" by Dora Lionstone, a Runner Up from 2022, on display at the Art Rotterdam fair in the 'Prospects' section. Mateo Ruiz Gonzalez, another Runner Up from 2022, continues to make remarkable strides in his career, with upcoming exhibitions and residencies as he nears the completion of his ongoing project, "Caliza."

We are also delighted to report that many artists who submitted their work to the OD Photo Prize have achieved significant sales during this period, including Elliott Verdier, Cecilia Bonilla, Angus Scott, Allan Salas, and more.

"Winning the 2022 OD Photo Prize was an immensely validating experience for me after dedicating many years to the creation of 'They Still Owe Him a Boat.' The prize provided an exceptional platform and network for my work to be seen, engaged with, and ultimately exhibited—a truly special moment in my journey. It has been a tremendous source of encouragement during the final stages of this project, reinforcing my belief in its caliber and significance. The competition serves as a fantastic opportunity to connect with a multitude of talented photographers, and I am deeply grateful to Tom and everyone at Open Doors for their ongoing guidance, access, and support through the OD Photo Prize." – Jono Terry, OD Photo Prize Winner, 2022
