The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) is thrilled to announce a global call for entry, inviting photographers from all corners of the world to participate in our latest competition. Whether you work in traditional black and white, digital, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, or any other photographic technique, we welcome your creative vision. Selected winners will be awarded a total of $4,000 in cash prizes, have their work exhibited in the NYC4PA Online Gallery, and be featured in the exclusive NYC4PA Winners Catalog. The Grand Prize image will be proudly displayed on the homepage of NYC4PA, offering exceptional exposure.

This competition explores the fascinating and multilayered concept of reflections. Imagine the wonder in a child’s eyes as they encounter their own reflection for the first time—marveling at the movement, the mimicry, the living mirror. That moment of joy, discovery, and delight is powerful, but reflections go far beyond that innocent first glance. As we grow and develop, reflections take on new meanings, complexities, and artistic possibilities.

In photography, reflections can transform a scene. Picture the gleaming towers of a city skyline shimmering in a placid park lake, or the bold burst of sunlight glinting off a polished metal surface. Think of people walking past department store windows, momentarily doubled by the glass. Or sunlight bouncing off the waves and casting flickering ribbons of light across a child’s smiling face. Reflections, whether subtle or dramatic, create dynamic layers of meaning and beauty in an image.

We encourage submissions that feature reflections in any form—literal or abstract. You might showcase both the subject and its mirror image, or a distorted version visible only through rippling water, warped glass, or oil-slicked surfaces. Whether it’s a clean reflection or one altered by perspective and surface, the interplay is what matters.
