RED, YELLOW, and BLUE are the foundational paint colors that form the basis of nearly every hue an artist uses on their palette. These three colors are the building blocks of the vibrant, diverse world of color that surrounds us. While our daily experiences are filled with countless shades and tones generated by the infinite combinations of these primary colors, each one—RED, YELLOW, and BLUE—has a unique significance and power when isolated. They are not just components of a broader spectrum but stand-alone visual elements that can evoke strong emotions, create focus, and define the character of an image.
This competition is dedicated to celebrating the impact of these primary colors in photography. We are looking for images where RED, YELLOW, or BLUE is not just present but is a dominant, critical component of the composition. You will have the opportunity to submit each of your images into one of the three categories: RED, YELLOW, or BLUE. Perhaps you have a striking monochrome image featuring a bold red car parked against a muted background, or a dynamic portrait with a quirky pair of bright yellow sunglasses as the focal point. Maybe you’ve captured the essence of a cityscape with a lone blue bench standing out amidst the urban sprawl. Even images that have been creatively modified to feature all shades of red, yellow, or blue are welcome.
The key is that the chosen color—whether RED, YELLOW, or BLUE—should not only be prominent but should play a pivotal role in the overall impact and composition of the image. We encourage you to think creatively, explore the possibilities, and submit your most compelling work where one of these primary colors takes center stage.
As with all NYC4PA calls for entry, all 2D forms of photography are accepted. We look forward to seeing how you’ve used these fundamental colors to create something truly remarkable!
