As Nikon celebrates its 50th anniversary of light microscope imagery, the 2025 Small World competitions are now open for entries.

Regarded as the premier event for microscopic photography, Nikon’s Small World provides a stage for both the beauty and scientific detail captured by light microscopy. The Photomicrography Competition is open to everyone with a passion for photography and microscopy, while Small World In Motion invites video and time-lapse submissions filmed through the microscope.

The top 20 winners will be awarded, with first, second, and third prizes valued at $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000, respectively.

The Nikon Small World Competition has a global reach, with previous participants from North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa. Launched in 1975, this annual event celebrates the creativity and skill of photomicrographers from a vast range of scientific disciplines.
