Applications are now being welcomed for the New York Portfolio Review, a collaborative initiative involving The New York Times photo department, Photoville, and the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
In its 11th annual iteration on April 13 and 14, 2024, the New York Portfolio Review will assemble 140 accomplished photographers alongside 70 leading photo editors, publishers, and curators. Addressing the need for accessibility, this year's review will offer both in-person and remote options. The in-person session is slated for Saturday, April 13, in New York, while the virtual session on Sunday, April 14, will be conducted via Zoom. Photographers have the choice to apply for either the in-person review or the online review but not both, and once an application is submitted, the selected day and format remain unchanged.
Open to individuals aged 18 or older, the review places emphasis on photojournalism, editorial, and documentary photography, welcoming submissions of all types of work.
The application deadline is Wednesday, January 31, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
A pivotal fixture in U.S. photographic events, the review functions as a platform for the photographic community to exhibit their work, exchange ideas, collaborate, and savor the creative process. On Sunday, April 7, a series of online workshops and presentations will be accessible to all participating photographers, covering subjects such as collaborating with photo editors, managing a photography business, contract negotiation, photo editing and sequencing, and self-care.
Each in-person participant will benefit from five private critiques, while remote participants will receive four private critiques.
