Any photographic process—print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, color, etc.—is welcome at the New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA). The winners will be featured in the NYC4PA Online Gallery and Award Winners Catalog, will receive a total of $4,000 in cash prizes, and more. The NYC4PA homepage will display the winning image for the Grand Prize.
SHADOWS AND PATTERNS:
When you walk anywhere in the world at different times of the day, the light changes dramatically from bright during the middle of the day to dark at dusk. As shadows grow longer and shorter, light in the early morning or late afternoon can transform a simple scene into one that is very interesting. Take for instance city streets, where pedestrians, buses, cars, and the shadows of tall buildings cross sidewalks. A canvas of black and white stripes is created by the same bright light that casts shadows on a flight of stairs. Images with patterns in the composition, like a line of palm trees in the tropics with shadows cast along a sandy beach, rows of theater chairs, and so on, are just as powerful. You are also welcome to submit interesting interpretations of your own shadow and other images. Be inventive - send us your best.
