Access to safe, clean water is vital for human development, yet millions still lack it due to factors like climate change and overuse. Sustainable Development Goal 6 aims to ensure universal access to affordable drinking water by 2030, but achieving this remains challenging.
The National Geographic Society’s World Freshwater Initiative addresses global water issues by mapping water availability through the World Water Map and supporting storytellers and conservationists through grants. In collaboration with the Conrad Hilton Foundation’s Safe Water Initiative, they invite storytellers worldwide—especially from underrepresented regions like sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East—to apply for funding to create impactful stories.
Applicants should have experience in the communities they cover and submit a portfolio showcasing their media projects.
