Mia Photo Fair and Irinox - Save the Food Photo Award 2024

WELCOME TO MY UNKNOWN BY ERIK KESSELS.

CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD DEDICATED TO EMERGING ARTISTS.

MIA Photo Fair is thrilled to introduce a new call for artists specifically curated for the fair by Erik Kessels – a Dutch artist, curator, and visual communication expert with a deep passion for art and photography. This award aims to engage contemporary emerging artists under the age of 35 who use photography as their artistic language.

Winning artists will have the opportunity to exhibit their works free of charge in a dedicated show during the 13th edition of MIA Photo Fair, scheduled from April 11th to 14th, 2024 – with an invitation-only Preview on April 10th – at Allianz MiCo, via Gattamelata 13, Milan.

CONCEPT "We live in an era where lens-based technology has evolved completely, making anything possible in image creation. With the proliferation of artificial intelligence, many images could become statistical hallucinations. The 'how' becomes less crucial; the 'why' takes center stage. That's why new ideas and the creation of original narratives in photography become essential. Unexplored territories are ready to be discovered and celebrated." Erik Kessels

COLLATERAL PRIZES Additionally, participating winning artists will have the opportunity to be selected for two collateral prizes promoted by the following Award Partners:

  • Gente di Fotografia. The selected artist will have their portfolio published in the "Gente di Fotografia" magazine, in conjunction with the 13th edition of MIA Photo Fair. The artist will be chosen by Franco Carlisi, editor of "Gente di Fotografia," from among the artists selected by Erik Kessels.

  • Litostudio Milano. The chosen artist will have the opportunity to participate free of charge in a residency period at Litostudio, a social promotion association based in Milan that aims for the "physical fruition" of art. Jacopo Costa Buranelli will select the artist who will be hosted in the studio for the residency, and the duration of the stay can be agreed upon with the members of Lito.

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 25, 2024
