Erik Kessels, a Dutchman, is a distinguished figure in the world of photography, recognized internationally as an artist, curator, editor, and visual communication professional. His work reflects a strong commitment to art and photography.
With this award, Kessels aims to involve contemporary artists of all ages who use photography as a primary language for artistic expression.
The chosen artists will have the opportunity to present their work at the 14th edition of the MIA Photo Fair, scheduled for March 20-23, 2025, at Superstudio Più, Via Tortona 27, Milan.
CONCEPT
"Photography, both as a medium and an art, is in the midst of a transformation, with boundless access and possibilities. Its fluid nature allows it to interact with other arts—such as performance, sculpture, installation, and projection—and take on diverse forms. As a three-dimensional material object, photography sheds the constraints of traditional wall displays, giving way to innovative linguistic experiments. The OFF-THE-WALL Award is dedicated to the unique, to storytelling, to unconventional approaches, and to new forms of photographic expression." — Erik Kessels
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
Artists featured in the exhibition will also have the chance to be selected for two special prizes offered by Award partners:
Publication of the artist's portfolio in Gente di Fotografia magazine, aligning with the 14th MIA Photo Fair. Franco Carlisi, the magazine’s director, will choose the artist for this feature.
Free access to an artist residency, with specifics to be provided by the award organizers.
