Dutch photographer Erik Kessels is an influential figure in international photography, known for his multifaceted roles as an artist, curator, editor, and expert in visual communication, with a profound interest in both art and photography.

With this award, Kessels seeks to attract contemporary artists of all ages who communicate through photography as their artistic voice.

Winning artists will exhibit their work at the 14th edition of MIA Photo Fair, scheduled for March 20-23, 2025, at Superstudio Più, Via Tortona 27, Milan.

CONCEPT

"Photography as an art form is evolving, opening up limitless opportunities and directions. Fluid and versatile, it blends with other disciplines—performance, sculpture, installations, and projections—assuming countless forms. Moving beyond the traditional framed photograph, it becomes a three-dimensional object, inviting bold new visual and linguistic experimentation. EXTRA AWARDS

In addition to the exhibition, winning artists may be considered for two special awards provided by the Award’s partners:

1. Feature in Gente di Fotografia magazine, timed with the 14th MIA Photo Fair. Franco Carlisi, the magazine’s director, will select the featured artist.

2. Participation in a fully funded artist residency, with details to be announced by the organizers.
