Dutch artist Erik Kessels is a key player on the global photography stage, renowned for his work as an artist, curator, editor, and visual communication specialist, all centered around his deep passion for art and photography.

Through this award, Kessels aims to engage artists of all ages who use photography as a creative language to express themselves.

The selected artists will have the chance to showcase their work at the 14th MIA Photo Fair, taking place from March 20 to 23, 2025, at Superstudio Più, Via Tortona 27, Milan.

CONCEPT

"Photography, both as a medium and an art form, is undergoing significant transformation, unlocking countless avenues and opportunities. Fluid in nature, it interacts with other art forms—performance, sculpture, installation, and projection—taking on limitless forms. As photography moves beyond traditional frames on walls, it emerges as a three-dimensional material, inspiring new linguistic experimentation. The OFF-THE-WALL Award is dedicated to the unconventional, the unexpected, and new forms of photographic expression." — Erik Kessels

ADDITIONAL PRIZES

Artists participating in the exhibition will be eligible for two special additional prizes, offered by the Award’s partners:

1. Publication of the selected artist's portfolio in Gente di Fotografia magazine, to be released alongside the 14th MIA Photo Fair. Franco Carlisi, the magazine’s editor, will choose the featured artist.

2. Free attendance at an artist residency, to be announced by the organizing committee.
