KBr represents the chemical formula for potassium bromide, a salt utilized in the development process of traditional photography. Its primary purpose is to inhibit or slow down the action of the developer, preventing the formation of a chemical veil known as a "veiling effect." This, in turn, helps to achieve greater purity of white tones in the resulting image. KBr symbolizes the continuity of our exhibition project, as well as our commitment to collaborate with other Catalan institutions that share a passion for photography. We aim to engage in educating future generations about the language of photography and contribute, as a captivating witness to the life of this art form, to the international recognition of Barcelona's creative and cultural dynamism.
As of June 1st, the submission period for the second edition (2023) of the KBr Photo Award is now open. This biennial international award, organized by the Foundation, aims to promote and acknowledge photographers who have already established a professional career and whose work exhibits noteworthy artistic values within the tradition of documentary photography.
The award, granted to unpublished projects, seeks to distinguish and elevate the recipient's artistic trajectory. It includes a monetary prize, the exhibition of the winning project in both the KBr and Madrid galleries, and the publication of a dedicated catalogue showcasing the work..
